Taking VIA Rail Cross Country

I've always wanted to see Canada's countryside in its entirety, so I'm thinking of taking VIA Rail from Toronto to Vancouver, or from Vancouver to Toronto. Has anyone done this before? Is it worth it? Or do you go crazy after day 2?
