I have been looking for a guitar for a gift in the under $300 range or so for a while and have been disappointed by the Black Friday guitar deals so far. I have tried a number of Epiphone SG/Les Paul, Agiles and have investigated the cheap (under $150) guitars as well. I saw that Sam Ash has the Ibanez AS73 on sale. I went and took a look at one and was very pleased with the quality of the guitar, especially for one made in China. This was easily the best guitar that I have looked at for under $300. These guitars are very well reviewed at their normal $400 price point. Sam Ash has it for $259.99 with limited quantities available. These speakers have a reputation for good sound but poor reliability. M-Audio has come out with new versions of the AV40, BX5a and BX8a so they are clearing out the old ones. I can't say for sure if the new versions sound better or are more reliable, but the new AV40's have reduced specs compared with the old ones. For $140 I'm going to take the risk. It was $235 recently on Amazon and I actually considered taking the risk then. That cable should work with most laptops, tablets, cellphones and MP3 players with standard 3.5mm stereo jacks. I'm not sure about the iPhone. Also there is a shorter 3 foot version. And you might want a different cable depending on your application.If you don't want to bother picking out a cable, just get the AV40. They have been down to $100 but I keep missing out on the deals. I hate to post this because it is one location only but I thought it might be good for a few people.Best Buy in Park Meadows is closing their Music Gear Area. I guess it is hard to compete with a Guitar Center across the street. They shipped off some of the higher end stuff to their other stores but still have a lot available. I saw a few Gibson SG's as well as a Flying V that were $699 with 20% off. Most of the other guitars are 30% off. Most of the names were Fender, Epiphone, Dean, Taylor etc. I saw Line 6 Amps, Marshall's (I think all SS), Bogner's, Fender etc. all for 30% off. There was a 65 Reissue Fender Twin Reverb 85w for $1399 with 30% off. They sell new for $1399 so that is a pretty good deal. I saw many Boss/Fishman Effects for 50% off. They have Keyboards, Drums, PA Equipment, some rack mount gear, t-shirts, hats etc. So if you are in the area, take a look. Apologies to all the musicians outside the area!

Bla Fleck has spent most of his career moving the banjo into the future--i.e., away from what he calls "the white southern stereotype" and, with the help of his band the Flecktones, into genres not normally associated with the instrument--but with Throw Down Your Heart, he goes in the opposite direction, traveling to Africa to explore the banjo's ancient roots. Joined by documentary filmmaker Sascha Paladino, Fleck journeys to Uganda, Tanzania, Gambia, and Mali, where he jams with (and records) a variety of musicians (most of whom, ironically, have never so much as seen a banjo before), and the results are consistently lilting and joyous. In the Ugandan village of Nakisenyi, Fleck accompanies several locals playing a gigantic marimba as others sing, clap, and play wood blocks. In a small Tanzanian town, he sits in with some folks playing the kalimba, or thumb piano, while in Dar es Salaam, that country's largest city, he guests with an electric band with a kind of Afro-Cuban sound. Bla Fleck has spent most of his career moving the banjo into the future--i.e., away from what he calls "the white southern stereotype" and, with the help of his band the Flecktones, into genres not normally associated with the instrument--but with Throw Down Your Heart, he goes in the opposite direction, traveling to Africa to explore the banjo's ancient roots. Joined by documentary filmmaker Sascha Paladino, Fleck journeys to Uganda, Tanzania, Gambia, and Mali, where he jams with (and records) a variety of musicians (most of whom, ironically, have never so much as seen a banjo before), and the results are consistently lilting and joyous. In the Ugandan village of Nakisenyi, Fleck accompanies several locals playing a gigantic marimba as others sing, clap, and play wood blocks. In a small Tanzanian town, he sits in with some folks playing the kalimba, or thumb piano, while in Dar es Salaam, that country's largest city, he guests with an electric band with a kind of Afro-Cuban sound. I missed out on ProppaT's Musician's Friend deal-of-the day post for the same base price ($119) on Tuesday, but credit goes to hasni for mentioning there that these were also on eBay for the same price. Presumably this price is directly related to that deal, as Music123 and Musician's Friend are both owned by Guitar Center. (what don't they own?) Amusingly these are currently selling for $249 on Music123's direct website.
MusiciansFriend.com has Shure SCL4 earphones for $119, today only, as their stupid deal of the day. This is the best deal I've seen on these in quite a while. For those not in the know, these are a slightly improved version of the Shure E4Cs. The reviews speak for themselves if you're in the market for middle range earphones. There are better earphones out there...if you want to spend an extra $100.
